This novel seems to be mostly about race because of the way the trail with Tom went. People were all on the Ewell's side just because he was white and people don't want black people to ever win in an argument between them and a black person. The town of Maycomb is separated from the town where all the black people live because most white people don't wanna live by the other race.
Jem and Scout don't seem to hate the black people though, there different. They go to the black churches and treat black people with more respect. They wanted Tom to win and he should have won.
